Jake Ricker, Part 1

This site was originally intended to be a showcase for all of the amazing photographers, videographers, and artists that I’m lucky enough to be associated with or know. Most of them just happen to fall into the category of friends who ride bikes as well.

Jake is a good friend of mine who lives in Seattle, and is constantly documenting his daily life and the craziness he sees when being on the road as a full time bike messenger. Well, ex-full time bike messenger. Happy retirement(maybe?)!! Jake sees some of the gnarliest things being on the Seattle streets full time, and has no problem documenting everything from drug abuse, riots, police activity, graffiti, and anything grimy he happens to run across.

I’m starting some of his posts on here, with some positivity, and with what I think to be his strong point, which is mostly his portraits. Some of his most honest and heartfelt work comes through in his portraits and the visible connection he has with the majority of his subjects. It’s not intrusive, it’s not in your face, and it’s not off-putting the subject at all. It’s real, it’s honest, and it’s his presence with the subject. As if his photos are part of a dialogue.
